Government Money Box With Ink

The great Vázquez. A rogue's Spain Bruguera.

"I have no script. I begin the story and not even know how it will end. I getting frame after frame until you interrupt the action when I get the number of pages agreed. "
( Manuel Vázquez . Artist.)

One person, a character at the end of the day, as Manuel Vázquez, that has transcended far beyond his comic, could only be English. And I say this because the rascals innate self-confidence that most of the time embarrassing, the kamikaze attitude to life, such as typical picaresque "The Burlador of Seville" of "Lazarillo de Tormes" and derivatives, can only occur in our country, a paradise of chutzpah, the playboy turned television star, the corrupt politician praised, praised and re-elected by his people ... In Germany a politician copied years ago from his doctoral thesis and was forced to resign. In Spain, the Spain of Vázquez, a security guard as Dion steals a van full of money and becomes, ipso facto, through a dark spell of primitive minds, a idol mass that takes disks ... Vázquez
endorsed that of "apúntamelo, then you'll pay" . Jeta irremediable, compulsive liar, pimp polygamist, gaol-bird, theatrical scenery, hustler, subversive and scourge of creditors personally, professionally was a tireless comic creator who left us to remember characters as endearing as "Anacleto", "Las Hermanas Gilda", "Family Chive" ... and so more than sixty different series, the stroke, despite its apparent simplicity, had an enviable force, with drawings that seem to have its own life and always dressed in a very particular mood (it shows the influence of Jardiel Poncela ) and certainly surreal, when non-acidic and corrosive.

The film by Oscar Aibar , "The great Vázquez" , edited by Cameo , is but a comic book made movie, a biopic past through the sieve of the sixties spirit Bruguera more colorful (the colors saturated and film attest) and, thankfully, away from the tiresome histrionics and baroque "Mortadelo and Filemon" But much darker than the comics pages that devoured children. Aibar , as we did on the suggestive "Flying Saucers" , us to a Franco era dark, oppressive and controlled, with strict working hours stipulated insurmountable and also brings us again to a maverick character who wants to get away at all costs to live life the other gray.
Great are the moments that populate the film (something failed in my opinion are the moments featuring animated creations Vázquez) and represent the wisdom of hard, sad and traumatic that it should be and not just work in a publishing company as Bruguera, who so many rivers of ink (pun intended) has run, but in a listless and bloodless Spain.
remarkable addition to the music of the ever dazzling Nacho Mastretta is also the interpretation of Santiago Segura and Manuel Vázquez , carrying out one of the best roles of his career to date, knowing all time when to be restrained and when you can almost always exaggerate their unrestrained gestures.

A recommendable and entertaining film, bittersweet, full of lights and shadows (especially in the last stage, where there is room for humor, but for the harsh reality), as the life of the Vázquez . A film somewhat atypical in our films of a filmmaker no less unusual, that will help many to discover the adventures and misadventures of the mad genius of our story. "This is a miserable country. No one will talk about our comics, here the only thing that matters is that Superman is a copyright case or palm. You see when I die. Everyone, everyone will say he has killed a genius, the creator of the sisters Gilda Anacleto, samophlange family, what is ... I'm sure I devote an entire page in the newspapers ... " , said Vazquez . And it's true. He was an unscrupulous rascal able to take advantage of someone who was so windy out, but it is also true that it was a true genius who fed the minds of thousands of children.
